Stream bank restoration stops erosion that is eating away property along a creek or drainage way — regrading failing banks, keying in rock and rip-rap, installing toe protection, and establishing vegetation that holds the soil long term.

Work windows on streams are limited — PA restricts in-stream work during certain fishery periods, and high flow can shut a site down. Most projects run 1–4 weeks of construction, but permitting can take 2–6 months. Start the conversation well before you need the work done.
This is the most permit-heavy work we do. Depending on scope it can require PA DEP Chapter 105 authorization, county conservation district approval, US Army Corps involvement, and floodplain review. Some maintenance and emergency repairs qualify for a general permit. We coordinate with the permitting engineer but do not prepare or certify the permit design ourselves.

We don't publish flat prices for this work because no two sites are the same, and a number pulled out of the air helps nobody. These are the factors that move a stream bank restoration quote up or down:
- Length of bank treated and height of the failing section
- Rock quantity, size and haul distance
- Permitting and engineering cost
- Stream access and whether a temporary crossing is needed
- Dewatering or pump-around requirements
- Plant material and matting specification
Can I just dump rock on the bank myself?
It's usually illegal without authorization, and unkeyed rock typically washes out in the next big storm and can worsen erosion downstream. Do it through the permit — it's cheaper than doing it twice.
How long does permitting take?
Straightforward maintenance can move in a few weeks under a general permit. A full Chapter 105 restoration commonly takes several months. We'll give you a realistic read early.
Do you handle the whole thing including the engineer?
We work alongside engineers regularly and can point you to firms we've built plans for. The design and permit application stay with them; the construction is ours.
