Driveway and access road work is the full build: excavating the soft material out, setting a proper sub-base, laying geotextile where the ground is weak, and placing and compacting stone in lifts that shed water. Culverts, ditching and turnarounds are part of the job, not extras bolted on.

We look at grade, drainage, turning radius and where water crosses. Most failed driveways are a drainage problem, not a stone problem.

PA One Call goes in, and we pull the township or PennDOT driveway/road-opening permit when the drive meets a public road.

Soft material and organics are cut out to competent subgrade, fabric laid where needed, and coarse base stone placed and compacted in lifts.

Culverts set at proper invert, ditches cut, and the surface crowned or sloped so water runs off instead of down the wheel tracks.

Top course placed, graded and rolled, edges cleaned up, and shoulders seeded where they were disturbed.
A residential driveway rebuild of a few hundred feet is typically 1–3 days. Long rural lanes, new construction access roads and anything with culverts and heavy ditching run 3–10 days. Driveway permits from a township can take 2–4 weeks, and PennDOT highway occupancy permits take longer — factor that in before scheduling.
Any new or modified access onto a township road needs a driveway permit; access onto a state road requires a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit, which we can coordinate but which takes lead time. Culvert sizing is often dictated by the municipality. Earth disturbance and stream crossings bring E&S and conservation district requirements.

We don't publish flat prices for this work because no two sites are the same, and a number pulled out of the air helps nobody. These are the factors that move a driveways & access roads quote up or down:
- Length and finished width of the drive
- Depth of undercut required and how bad the existing subgrade is
- Stone type and tonnage — the biggest single line on most quotes
- Geotextile fabric where the ground is wet
- Culverts, end sections and ditching
- Slope, switchbacks and tree clearing along the route
- Permits and any required paving sub-base tolerances
Why does my driveway keep washing out?
Almost always water. If the surface isn't crowned, or there's no ditch or cross-pipe where water comes across, the drive becomes the stream. We fix the drainage first — otherwise you're buying stone every year.
What stone do you use?
Typically a coarse base course such as 2A or larger rock on bad ground, then a finer top course for a drivable surface. The spec depends on your subgrade and whether trucks and equipment will use it.
Can you prep for paving?
Yes. We build the sub-base to the paving contractor's required depth, compaction and tolerance so they can pave straight over it.
Do I need a permit for a new driveway?
If it connects to a public road, yes — a township driveway permit or a PennDOT HOP for a state road. We handle the coordination when it's in our scope, but it needs lead time.
